It’s amazing that this is the only problem the cardinal has with the Talmud. Here the cardinal calls Jews "our ancestors in the faith." Yeah, and Negroes were the first human beings.

Christians love to apologize to Jews for any aggression whatsoever committed by any Christian at any time in history. But has there ever been a rabbi who has apologized for Jewish involvement in Communism, which took the lives of tens of millions of Christians? No, not a single one. I repeat, not a single one. In 1918 and 1919, there were 556 high-level functionaries of the Bolshevik state in Russia. Ethnically, 17 of these were Russian. Two were Ukrainian. Eleven were Armenian. Thirty-five were Latvian. Fifteen were German. One was Hungarian. Ten were Georgian. Three were Polish. Three were Finnish. One was Czech. One was Karaim. Four hundred and fifty-seven were Jew. On the Central Committee, two were Russian. The other 11 were Jew. Let us once again ponder the fact that not a single rabbi has ever apologized for this.

Are the rulers of Turkey actually Jews? It would explain Turkey’s admission to the European Union. You know that Christ-killer Abe Foxman has always refused to acknowledge the Armenian genocide as actual genocide, because Jews have patented that word. In other words, Jews would be angry. So while you hear about genocide in Darfur on the news, just remember that those who control the media control the language.

It’s not exactly "Blowin’ in the Wind," is it?

Doug Wilson and the college he founded are the subjects of an unusually flattering piece in the New York Times. A couple of lines caught my eye. Wilson states his purpose: “We are trying to save civilization.” His students say: “We want to be medieval Protestants.” Wilson says he would like to vote for Jefferson Davis. But the liberals then try to tar him with association to two of my favorite men, R.L. Dabney and R.J. Rushdoony. That’s when Wilson starts waving his arms and ululating, and shows that his idea of saving civilization includes race-mixing, kissing up to Jews, and - for all his talk about "living faith" - denying that God’s laws should be enforced in his lifetime. He likes to push that goal 500 years into the future so that he doesn’t run afoul of the laws being enforced now in the absence of God’s laws. (For instance, in Britain today, the maximum punishment for denouncing faggotry is longer than the average punishment for rape.) This is nothing new, of course, and Wilson is certainly not unique. Hypocrites have always escaped to lily-white enclaves to build their ivory towers. But let’s not be silly and call this saving civilization. Saving civilization is dangerous and dirty work. Just ask a medieval Protestant.

Doug Wilson is largely responsible for the Federal Vision controversy that has Reformed Christians arguing about how to define justification. It’s really an extension of the disagreement decades ago between two great men, Cornelius Van Til and Gordon Clark. That controversy was over knowledge. Clark argued for the primacy of knowledge, but Van Til said knowledge of God and of ourselves has not been unaffected by sin. Total depravity is total. We are not able to understand God’s revelation apart from His Spirit. Our thoughts are analogous to God’s but not exactly like His. "Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him" (Matthew 11:27).Clark replied that if God has truth and man has an analogy of the truth then man does not have truth. And so Clark and his followers denied that Van Til and his followers had a correct understanding of justification, for understanding it, they said, is everything. The battle continues to the present day. Here’s a fun experiment: Walk into a Reformed church and use biblical language like "obedience of faith" or "baptism saves," and measure how long it takes for someone to say that you shouldn’t talk that way. They have reduced living faith to a cold science. They don’t even like the word "faithfulness" because it implies doing on the part of the one who has faith. Some of you, who aren’t familiar with this, may think I’m exaggerating.

Our friend Ehud found a very interesting quote from Dr. Clark on Titus 1, the "racism" chapter: "[T]hose who caused the most trouble in Crete, and elsewhere, were not polytheistic pagans: They were Jews… [T]he trouble in the church was not pagan sexual immorality, but Jewish greed for money. Jews are often thought of as greedy… The Cretan churches contained both Jews and native Cretans. Here the Jews caused the most trouble. They above all could be called fallacious reasoners… After reading this denunciation [that Cretans are always liars, gluttons, and evil beasts], one may ask, Do pastors today imitate Paul? Few dare to do so. Yet, Paul in I Cor.11:1 commands us to imitate him." And if it was difficult to find a pastor 50 years ago who had the stones to imitate Paul and denounce Jews, you can guess how difficult it is now.

The sequel to Pirates of the Bible is out. It’s called Dead Men’s Bones. Who cares about debates over justification when we can study the twelve steps to financial freedom or the seven steps to a slimmer waistline? I just can’t understand why men hate going to church. The churches are trying to rectify this problem, not with sound doctrine but with pole dancing and sex tips.

The Industrial Revolution came about through "nonviolence, literacy, long working hours and a willingness to save," and economists are surprised that such virtues are not found everywhere. After 200+ years of the revolution, we can declare with certainty that urbanism and industrialism do not breed the virtues that made them possible. The Industrial Revolution was forged in the crucible of Christian agrarianism, and even then it needed a particular island people at a particular point in their history. Rushdoony taught that Europe was made safe by monks who traveled the countryside resolving disputes and administering justice. Rush said this created such a climate of peace that cities literally grew up around Jews plying their wares. So we see that Christians, when mixed with darkness, become their own worst enemies. Yet there is a healthy balance between urban and rural areas to be found in the Old Testament. Rural property was held perpetually by family, but urban property (inside walled cities) could be sold outside the family if someone fell into debt. It was not redeemed in the Year of Jubilee. This created a healthy synergy between change and stability. We could go back to such clean living, free of usury, but that’s the last thing Christians want to do. Let’s not talk about Christians. I don’t want to lose my temper.
